Robotic Kinematically Aligned Total Knee Replacement alignment is approach naturally aligns your knee by custom positioning the implants to the native joint line of your knee, just like it was before arthritis developed. This method, which is customized to each patient, speeds recovery and provides better satisfaction, pain relief, function, and flexion than traditional or mechanically aligned TKR. In fact, implant survival at three and six years are also equivalent or better than knee replacements using traditional mechanical alignment.
KA-TKA aims to reproduce the natural movement and alignment of the knee joint, potentially leading to a more natural feeling knee and improved function.
By aligning the implant components with the patient's natural joint lines and axes, KA-TKA can minimize abnormal contact points between the implant components, reducing wear and tear and improving long-term outcomes.
Studies suggest that kinematically aligned TKAs may result in higher patient satisfaction and better functional outcomes compared to mechanically aligned TKAs.
By restoring the natural biomechanics of the knee, KA-TKA may reduce the risk of implant loosening or failure, potentially leading to longer implant survival.
Some studies suggest that KA-TKA may be associated with a quicker recovery and faster return to normal activities compared to mechanically aligned TKA.
Kinematic alignment is applicable to most patients with osteoarthritis, and is not limited to specific anatomical presentations.
